Mrs. John W. Barbe
Mrs. Eliza E. Barbe, widow of John W. Barbe, died at her home in Mapletown, Friday, August 9, aged 73 years. (Unreadable) was due to complications. She was a member of the Sugar Grove Baptist church. The following children survive: Mrs. N. H. Minor, Mrs. Frank Bonham, C.A., L. G., and W. H. Barbe, of near Mapletown; Mrs. George Gapen of Willow Creek, and Arthur Barbe of Morgantown, W. Va. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon. Interment in the Mapletown cemetery. (Waynesburg Republican, Aug. 15, 1929)

John W Barb, farmer and stock-grower, Mapletown, Penna, was born in Monongalia county, West Virginia, July 8, 1854. His parents, Gideon Barb and Sarah Webb Barb, were natives of Old Virginia, and of German descent. In early life his father was a farmer. He subsequently became a manufacturer of boots and shoes, and came to Mapletown in 1866 where he engaged n that business until his death in 1875.
John W Barb is the eleventh in a family of twelve children. He was reared in Mapletown, and attended the district school. He has followed farming as his occupation, and is the owner of a farm of 100 acres in Monongahela township, Greene county, Penna, where he resides.
Mr Barb was united in marriage in 1876 with Louisa E Mestrezat, daughter of Alexander Mestrezat and Maria Debolt Mestrezat, who were of French descent. Mr and Mrs Barb’s children are: Lillian Barb; Minnie Barb; Charles A Barb; Lamar Barb; and William Barb. Mr Barb is a Democrat. His wife is a zealous member Barb; Charles A Barb; Lamar Barb; and William Barb. Mr Barb is a Democrat. His wife is a zealous member of the Baptist Church

JOHN W. BARB
John W. Barb, a well known and highly respected citizen, died at his home in Mapletown, Sunday,
December 9, aged 63 years. Mr. Barb was a son of Gideon and Sarah Webb Barb, deceased, and was born in Monongalia county, W. Va., on July 8, 1954. In October 1866 he removed with his parents to Mapletown where he had since resided. He had followed farming and stock raising and was very successful. Mr. Barb always took an active interest in affairs in his commnity and had held the office of assessor of Monongahela township for more than twenty years. He was a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church and the P. O. S. of A. and the Royal Areanum. He was united in marriage with Miss Louise Mestrezat, who with the following children survive: Mrs. George Gapen of Garards Fort; Mrs. Ethel Donham and Charles A. Barb, of Mapletown; L. G. Barb, of Monongahela township and William H. Barb, who is at Camp Sherman, Ohio, being called in the last quota which left Waynesburg on Friday. Two brothers, H. K. Barb, of Mapletown and L. S. Barb, of Pt. Marion, also survive. The funeral services were held onTuesday and was very largely attended. Interment was made in the Monongahela Hill cemetery.
