William was born in Mapletown and spent his entire life there.
For some time he operated a store in the Mapletown community and later was employed as a bookkeeper for a coal mine company.
William served in the army during World War I.

WILLIAM H. BARB
William H. Barb, 67, well-known resident of Mapletown, died at his home at 4:56 a. m. Sunday, March 7,
following a serious illness of two days.
A son of the late John W. and Louisa Mestrezat Barb, the deceased was born Oct. 30, 1896 at
Mapletown, where he resided all his life. He ran a store there for a number of years and in later life was employed as a bookkeeper by a coal company.
Mr. Barb was a member of the Mapletown Methodist Church, the Masontown Masonic Lodge, and the Pittsburgh Consistory, Syria Temple. He was a veteran of World War I, having served in the Army.
Surviving Mr. Barb are his wife, Catharine [sic] Milliken Barb; one son, John M. Barb of Mexico City, Mexico; one granddaughter, Natalia Barb; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Gapen of Greensboro and Mrs. Ethel Donham of Mapletown, and two brothers, Lamar Barb of Dilliner and Attorney Arthur L. Barb of Morgantown, W. Va. (Democrat Messenger, March 8, 1954)

Mrs. Catherine Milliken Barb, 67, widow of William H. Barb of Mapletown, died suddenly on Sunday, July 20, 1958 in Uniontown Hospital after failing health for a year. A daughter of James A. and Elizabeth Danley Milliken, born January 25, 1891 near Claysville, Washington County. Attended Claysville schools, graduated from Claysville High School and Musskingum College. Taught in Washington and Greene County High Schools. member of Mapletown Methodist Church and Southeast Greene County Civic Club. Her husband, William H. Barb died March 7, 1954. Survived by a son, John M. of Mexico City, Mexico; a granddaughter, Natalia of Ithaca, NY; a grandson William of Mexico City; a nephew,, George Milliken of CA. Funeral Wednesday at Mapletown Methodist Church, Rev. Dan R. Kovar officiating. Burial in Garards Fort Cemetery. (Waynesburg Republican, 23 July 1958, Page 4):
