This is a Misc. Note I was born in Connellsville Hosp. 5/17/1945. We lived in a stone house my Dad built on the outskirts of Morrell along Route 119 in Dunbar Twp. Many people thought we were well off because of this new house, and we did fine as long as my Dad was alive but lived on Social Security afterwards.
I consider my childhood happy until Daddy died, although I was a nervous, worried kid, sleep walking and talking and diagnosed with chorea and bad nerves in 1st or 2nd grade. I started to Trotter Public school, but they would not let me write with my left hand, and this made me more nervous, so I went to St. Rita's Catholic School for grades 1-5.
I was a good student and was given a reading group to monitor in 2nd grade while the nun went to work with the 1st grade. She brought me to the board once when the priest came in to show him my math skills. But the nun I had in 5th grade was a "crazy" and my grades started to go down, so I went back to Trotter in 6th grade.[I found out many years later, from cousin Michele Dawn, that the nuns referred to me as the little blond, Protestant girl. This explains to me now why I was never picked for anything (especially processions, which were really big in that Italian church, even though I was a top student and pretty. In first grade, one of the 8th graders wanted to pick me to be her angel at graduation, which was an honor, but the nun said I was too big!!!!) For God’s sake, , my name was NAPOLILLO and I was baptized in that church!!!!! ]That's when Daddy died. I liked school but life was never the same and I think this is when my depressions started. Aunt Ada and Uncle Ivan let us stay with them for a few months after his death because Mom was falling apart. I always loved Aunt Ada so much. She was the only one of the Aunts and Uncles on both sides who was really good to us.
In 8th grade I found out that I scored the highest of all the 8th graders in 5 schools on an achievement test, and this started an obsession to be No. 1 in my highschool class. I did achieve this but at the cost of a normal social life. I won many honors in high school and also graduated with high honors. from California State College, Pa. as a high school math teacher.
I had a bout with breast cancer in 1994 , it has been over 9 years(Jan 2004) as I am writing this and I am doing okay. However, Faith was diagnosed with BC Feb. 2003 and we found we are carrying the BRCA2 gene. She is having a hard time recovering from reconstructive surgery she had in Nov. 2003. She got a massive infection.
Then Marie Conti from Connellsville called. She is an elderly Italian lady who was born in Nusco and she said these new Napolillo’s in C’ville were probably second cousins. She seemed to vaguely remember them. They are Joseph Carmen Napolillo, born in C’ville in 1911 and baptized at St. Rita’s, his Father Anthony and mother Marie Antoinette DeSanto. They moved to Philadelphia and started a bakery, The granddaughter of Joseph Carmen notified me by e-mail in Jan.2004.
Her name is Cindy and her e-mail address is:
