Past President of Greene County Farm Bureau
S. Clarke Gapen, 84, of Greensboro, died unexpectedly at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2002, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born March 2, 1917, in Greene Township, Greene County, a son of George S. and Lillian Barb Gapen.
Mr. Gapen was a 1936 graduate of Cumberland Township High School, Carmichaels. He resided in the Greensboro area all his life, where he operated his family dairy farm.
He was a member of Mapletown United Methodist Church and was a past president of Greene County Farm Bureau.
In 1981, Mr. Gapen served as a worshipful master of Valley Lodge 459, F&AM, Masontown. He was a past thrice potent master of Uniontown Lodge of Perfection. He was a member of Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Pittsburgh and Syria Temple AAONMS of Pittsburgh.
On December 31, 1943, he married Henrietta Mavin, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Daniel C. Gapen of Garards Fort and Harley M. Gapen of Greensboro; a brother, John D. Gapen of Waynesburg; a sister, Helen G. Six of Greensboro; four grandchildren, Gregory Daniel, Stephanie C., Harley Joe and Marjorie Lynn Gapen, and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a brother, George B. Gapen.
FUNERAL NOTICE:
GAPEN - Friends of S. Clarke Gapen of Greensboro, who died Saturday, February 9, 2002, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Yoskovich Funeral home. Martin J. Yoskovich, director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, with Dr. William L. Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Mapletown. Valley Lodge 459 F&AM will conduct Masonic services at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Shriners' Hospital for Children, Cincinnati Burn Unit, 3229 Burnet Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45229-3095.
