Obituary notes for Helen Elizabeth Gapen
Mrs. Six was a graduate of Mapletown High School. She received her degree in education from Waynesburg College. She taught in Greensboro and Sugar Grove schools in the Southeastern Greene School District for 201Ú2 years, until her retirement in 1975.
She was a member of Mapletown United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was an active member on the church board.
Mrs. Six was a member and past worthy matron of the former Emerald Chapter 135, Order of the Eastern Star in Waynesburg. At the time of her death, she was a member of Martha V. Paul Chapter 404, Order of the Eastern Star in Washington. She also served as a mother advisor for Rainbow Girls.
She was a member of Carmichaels Grange 1389 and Daughters of the American Revolution.
On February 20, 1937, she married Harley Thadeus Six, who died November 9, 1978.
Surviving are a brother, John Gapen and wife Irene of Waynesburg, and several nieces and nephews.
She also leaves three dear friends and caregivers, Olivia Burich, Lois Burwell and Clara Mae Henry.
Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are two brothers, George Barb Gapen and S. Clarke Gapen.
Family and friends are welcome from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Yoskovich Funeral Home (724-966-5500), Martin J. Yoskovich, funeral director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 17, with the Rev. Kenneth A. Haines and Pastor Erwin "Woody" Wilson co-officiating.
Interment will follow in Monongahela Hill Cemetery, Mapletown. Eastern Star services will be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Mapletown United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 502, Greensboro, PA 15338; or Humane Society of Greene County, 183 Jefferson Road, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
