Wealthy Washington Farmer Gave Directions for His Funeral
Washington, PA-Nov. 16-John F. McClelland, who died a few days ago at his home, south of Washington, gave these directions for his burial: "I direct that my body be interred in the hill orchard in a rough, unplaned box that will cost about a dollar, and use the clothing I have in the house and have no funeral or preaching in the house. Employ two men to haul my body to the orchard and inter it at the corner tree of the Lewis Snyder farm and mine. And place no mark at my grave." (Indiana Gazette, November 22, 1905)

Aged South Franklin Woman Passes Away
Mrs. Nancy Jane McClelland, aged 87 years, widow of John McClelland, died in her home near VanKirk Station, Washington R.D. 5, Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o?clock. She had been bedfast since 27 September 1932.
Mrs. McClelland, one of the oldest residents of the township, was a daughter of Dryden and Matilda VanKirk and was born in South Franklin township, where she had always resided, on 28 July 1845. Her father was a grandson of the first VanKirk to settle in this country just after the Revolutionary War and was born in Amwell township in 1815. Her husband, John McCleland died in 1905. 
She leaves the following children, Sheldon McClelland, of Washington, R.D. 6, Mrs. David Miles of Washington R.D. and Miss Sarah McClelland, at home; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. 
Funeral services, conducted by Reverend John W. Love, pastor of the First Christian Church, of which she was a member, will be held in her late home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o?clock. Burial will be in the Washington Cemetery.
