Received a common school education, and was reared to farm work. Enlisted in CompanyA, 85th P.V.I. under H. J. VanKirK, and took part in the engagements Fair Oaks, Deep Bottom and numerous skirmishes. Returned to farm on discharge. A Republican and belonged to United Presbytery.18
